- Have careers entrenched in advocacy for civil rights. MBO partners have served as cooperating attorneys with the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc. and the Arkansas Civil Liberties Union. They have storied legal histories in the advocacy of civil rights equality. These cases include decisions that racially desegregated the workforces of some of the state’s largest employers. The firm has an unwavering track record and commitment to civil rights principles and community action. To that end, opportunity and timing saw the historic participation of the firm in local bond projects that gave rebirth to downtown Little Rock.
- Have litigated EEO cases and have specialized in employment law since 1984. They have appeared before Congress to present testimony on various EEO issues, worked with Senate and Congressional staff on EEO laws and policy, and organized and presented briefs involving EEO issues before the U.S. Supreme Court. They have also participated in numerous EEOC mediations, advised corporate clients in EEO matters, as well as investigated EEO claims for clients.
- Include active members of the W. Harold Flowers Law Society, which provides support to Arkansas’ African-American legal community, including offering Continuing Legal Education (CLE) training or Expungement Clinics.
- In addition to providing exceptional legal services, the attorney’s at Mays, Byrd and O’Guinn are active in the legal community, community at large and regularly sponsor or support scholarships and youth development programs, including the Little Rock Links and Tidwell Performing Arts Project.

Every year Little Rock Links work tirelessly to increase our unwavering financial support local HBCUs and continue to increase annual scholarship dollars awarded to local high school female students yearly.

MBO supports the arts and its impact to help children and youth thrive, and the Tidwell Project has consistently demonstrated the benefits of the performing arts in building self-esteem, self-respect and discipline. Students from the Tidwell Project have been delighting and astounding audiences in the Little Rock Area for several years. Their performances have received excellent reviews and they are in constant demand.

JENNIFER L. WINSTEAD MAYS SCHOLARSHIP
Named in honor of Jennifer L. Winstead Mays, this scholarship is awarded to well-qualified high school students who are interested in careers in the legal field. Each year, Mays, Byrd and O’Guinn will award four $1,500 scholarships to students who meet the following criteria and who submit the requested items by the April 1 deadline:

- Student must have minimum GPA of 3.2 (verifiable through a submitted transcript)
- Student must submit an essay describing what the law means to them and why they are interested in law and society
- Student must show proof of college enrollment or acceptance
